Herpes is FOREVER!

The Herpes Simplex Virus causes cold sores and is transmitted from contact with secretions from the mouth or genital area and/or infected skin. This highly contagious viral infection causes clusters or singular blisters that eventually erupt and then crust over. Usually, the outbreaks appear around the mouth area but can also show up anywhere on the face or body.

The two types of Herpes Simplex are HSV1 and HSV 2, both known to cause mouth sores and Genital Herpes. During an outbreak, one should not perform oral sex or exchange saliva with another individual. The exchange of body fluids is a sure way to spread the virus! When spread to the eyes, blindness can occur and it is the most common infectious cause of blindness in the United States. Wearing sunblock daily is helpful as well. Sun exposure can also trigger an outbreak.

There is NO CURE for Herpes Simplex so once you contract the virus, it is in your system forever. This nasty, viral infection lies dormant in your spine between outbreaks and shows it's ugliness when your immune system is weak or when stress takes a toll on you.

To prevent additional sores from spreading you must avoid touching the infected area(s) and DO NOT SHARE the following items with others;
- eating utensils

- kisses/body fluids

- towels

- toothbrushes

- razors

- cups or glasses

- cigarettes (if you are a yucky smoker)

*ANYTHING that comes in contact with your body! It' IS that contagious!

As an Esthetician, I can not provide a service to a client with any type of outbreak. The blisters or sores must be completely dry and healed before they are no longer contagious. Contracting Herpes in any form is not on my "to do" list, so I will turn you away with no remorse.

If you have HSV 1, do not unintentionally spread it to your children. The NO SHARING or GET YOUR OWN RULE is an excellent way to prevent the spread of this and other viruses. Start this rule as early as possible so your children will benefit in the long run with lower chances of contracting this virus and overall better health. Remember, Herpes is FOREVER!
